Prairie Folk Farm is located in northeast Wisconsin, outside Chilton, where farmers Austin and Kristen Pethan tend a flock of sheep and raise pastured lamb. Their four children are the seventh generation to call the farm home. The Pethan’s were drawn to life on the farm to raise their family on nutritious, ethically raised meat and veggies from the garden. It is with these values that they would be honored to raise food and fiber for your family.

Kristen

Kristen loves when food tells a story: a sungold picked that afternoon by the hands of her daughters, meat raised tenderly on grass and sunshine, pickles canned with generations-old recipes. As a mama bear, Kristen is committed to sharing with you the same sustainably raised, organically-minded produce and meats that nourish her family. Kristen is drawn to the creative aspects of agriculture, the long hours in the dirt and cultivating a love of the land in her children. Most of all, Kristen is pulled to farming through her father’s encouragement to be “out-standing in her field”.

Austin

“Stewardship” is Austin’s overarching idea for all things farm. The idea of land stewardship first started simmering while working on the burnt out and abused prairies of southern Wisconsin, where he worked with torch and chainsaw to restore vigor and diversity to land that had seen better days. He now takes that ethos to the family farm, striving to make it a better piece of ground.

In addition to farming, Austin runs a grazing and pasture consulting service, GrazeRight Solutions LLC.
